Containerisation has revolutionised shipping since the late 1960’s. However not all cargo fits within the confines of a 20’ or 40’ container. The handling of overwidth or overheight cargo within an opentop, flat rack or bolster container, above or below deck of a containership or shipped on a Ro/Ro vessel, requires specialist knowledge to ensure piecing together a successful logistics door to door movement. Importers and exporters of mining and agricultural equipment, earthmoving equipment and marine craft are just some of the more obvious industries requiring some specialist assistance. Take, for example, movement of luxury craft – there are special processes that apply to certain procedures. With our vast experience attained, EDI can quickly turn to advice on handling varied matters such as, advice of AQIS treatment requirements on arrival, making of a successful move from vessel direct to water with tender vessel on hand or customs duty regulations based on craft sailing directly under own steam.

Personal effects

The majority of inbound freight handling operators within Australia are unable, in todays hectic times, to handle personal effects due to the complexities of the transaction. Staff at most freight handling organisations are either just too inexperienced to liase with a migrant or resuming resident, a member of the general public, or work off a strictly procedure based system that just cannot cope with the demands of being able to look outside the square. For a migrant arriving in Australia from overseas with their family, the clearance and delivery process of their personal effects (and perhaps their motor vehicle and/or boat) will be the first commercial transaction that they will undertake in their new adopted homeland and we take pride in having the ability to make this a pleasant and trusting experience. We have staff with the experience, drive and ability to communicate to the owner the complexities of the transaction and we can assist from any emigrated area.

Vehicle Importation

There is a process and a set of rules that applies to attaining a successful import approval of motor vehicles, motorcycles and trailers. This is certainly a specialty area and with our years of experience, we can with the asking of a few relevant questions, being the first consideration, quickly give all the advice required to attain a successful import application via our national department of transport, be it for a personal import, low volume compliance, off road, pre 1988 manufactured vehicles or special circumstance import. Once a successful import application is under way we can advise on shipping costing and advice and/or customs and quarantine clearance costing and advice, right down to assistance with the post clearance aspects of engaging of mechanical engineers for pre-registration and the actual vehicle registration.

Show freight

We are constantly moving musical and stage equipment and sometimes associated personal effects for touring acts. We can be contracted to handle single import or export moves or requested to handle the logistics of a return journey which can require either a tempory import into the touring country or consideration of an ATA Carnet to facilitate the free movement in and out.

ATA Carnet

The above example demonstrated the possible use of an ATA Carnet. At times show freight operators can tour between many countries freely without customs hassle or duty / tax impost with the proper execution of an ATA Carnet document to be used on arrival and departure at each country of which the freight is moved to. This is also particularly useful for touring vehicles and motorcycles. Overseas tourists travelling the world including Australia on their motorcycles or historic vehicles being showcased on world trips, transit with an ATA Carnet and EDI can assist in overall set up, management and shipping arrangement.

Exhibition / Conference materials

In fact trade samples, advertising items etc used at one or multiple overseas exhibitions can travel freely with an ATA Carnet or at times a tempory import can suffice but this is again a specialist service that can be entrusted with the experience and ability to look outside the square with EDI.
